THE PALE KING

THE PALE KING

PULITZER PRIZE FINALIST 2012!

The agents at the IRS Regional Examination Center in Peoria, Illinois, appear ordinary enough to newly arrived trainee David Foster Wallace. But as he immerses himself in a routine so tedious and repetitive that new employees receive boredom-survival training, he learns of the extraordinary variety of personalities drawn to this strange calling. And he has arrived at a moment when forces within the IRS are plotting to eliminate even what little humanity and dignity the work still has.

The Pale King remained unfinished at the time of David Foster Wallace's death, but it is a deeply compelling and satisfying novel, hilarious and fearless and as original as anything Wallace ever undertook. It grapples directly with ultimate questions--questions of life's meaning and of the value of work and society--through characters imagined with the interior force and generosity that were Wallace's unique gifts. Along the way it suggests a new idea of heroism and commands infinite respect for one of the most daring writers of our time

"Deeply sad, deeply philosophical...breathtakingly brilliant...funny, maddening and elegiac...[David Foster Wallace's] most emotionally immediate work..." (Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times )

PULITZER PRIZE FINALIST 2012!

Brilliantly researched and wonderfully written, LOVE AND CAPITAL is a heartbreaking and dramatic saga of the family side of the man whose works would redefine the world after his death.

Drawing upon years of research, acclaimed biographer Mary Gabriel brings to light the story of Karl and Jenny Marx's marriage. We follow them as they roam Europe, on the run from governments amidst an age of revolution and a secret network of would-be revolutionaries, and see Karl not only as an intellectual, but as a protective father and loving husband, a revolutionary, a jokester, a man of tremendous passions, both political and personal.

In LOVE AND CAPITAL, Mary Gabriel has given us a vivid, resplendent, and truly human portrait of the Marxes-their desires, heartbreak and devotion to each other's ideals.

BRINGING METAL TO THE CHILDREN: THE COMPLETE BERSERKER'S GUIDE TO WORLD TOUR DOMINATION
BRINGING METAL TO THE CHILDREN: THE COMPLETE BERSERKER'S GUIDE TO WORLD TOUR DOMINATION

In BRINGING METAL TO THE CHILDREN, twenty-five-year music veteran Zakk Wylde, the master of fantastical excess, shares what it takes to be a true Berzerker, including a True Rocker Test that reveals if fans are Berzerker-worthy or poseur tools. For those with admirable scores, he offers lurid examples of Metal excess, telling road stories about wild nights and backstage havoc with many of Heavy Metal's Gods-Rob Zombie, Slash, Alice in Chains bassist Mike Inez, Skid Row guitarist Dave "Snake" Sabo, Metallica's Lars Ulrich, and of course the Godfather of heavy metal, Ozzy Osbourne.

From recording a Metal record to setting up a shooting range on the tour bus, this is the greatest speculative and truly dangerous rock 'n' roll road show every Metal Head must have.

Wylde has won nearly every guitar award imaginable, and is a major influence on a new battalion of rock guitarists currently popular today. One thing is for certain: wherever Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society travels, brutality is sure to follow.
